DeC Rebels and Chevron both lose (Week 8)

We have a four way tie at the top of the table following defeats for DeC Rebels and Chevron at the hands of Ellon and Inn at the Park respectively. The Rebels and the Park sit at the top of the table, with an identical margin. At the other end of the table, St Ronald have finally gained their first win of the season. Smiley

10 man Ellon beat the DeC Rebels by 25 runs at the Shed. After winning the toss Ellon elected to bat and after a very slow start, gradually started to build a good total on a very poor Shed pitch mainly due to a very classy 34no by Aman and a quickfire 24 by Kenny Hutcheson. The Rebels managed to bowl Ellon out in the 19th over for 92 runs, however a number of extras and a few crucial dropped catches did not help the Rebel cause.

With the Rebels needing 93 to win on a pitch that proved very difficult to get the ball away, they got off to the worst possible start losing a wicket to the first ball of the innings. Wickets fell at regular intervals with Vicky providing the only real resistance before being run out for 22. In the end the Rebels were bowled out in the 17th over for 67 runs, falling 26 short of the required total. Key bowlers for Ellon were Aman (3 for 11 off 4 overs) and spinner Ben Freebairn (3 for 23 off 4 overs; great recovery after being hit for 16 off the 1st over). Fifteeen year old keeper Tom Proctor also had a good day, with two good stumpings. A victory for Ellon that draws them level on points with last years champions.

Inn at the Park are back in the title race after a 7 wicket victory over Chevron at DP2. Chevron batted first and reached 104-7 off 20 overs, including 25 extras from the charitable Park. In reply, the Park were always on top of the run rate, although were pinned back by a good spell of bowling from Darren (1 for 13 off 4 overs). The Park reached 105-3 in the 17 over to record a relatively comfortable victory, with Phil Gill retiring after reaching 30 and Dan adding 25 no.

Grammar 98 recorded a 6 wicket victory over Caledonian at DP1. Caledonian used the full 20 overs and made a respectable 116 AO, with Himanshu retiring on 30 and Geet making 22. Pick of the bowlers was Grant Jamieson (4 overs, 3 maidens, 2 for 2). In reply, Grammar 98 reached 117 for 4 off 18.2 overs, with Gav Jamieson 34*, Gordon Russell 25 and Kieran 29 doing the damage.

St Ronald recorded their first win of the season, with a 4 wicket victory over Methlick at DP3. Batting first, Methlick could only reach 78 AO. In reply, St Ronald reached 79-6. They'll be dancing in the streets of St Ronald !!

ATSSC recorded a comfortable 72 run victory over MCC at the Links. MCC were chasing a total of 118 AO posted by ATSSC, however suffered a batting collapse and were bowled out for 46 runs.

Dutchmill beat Grammar Hockey by 3 runs at the Shed in the closest match of the night. Batting first, Dutchmill made 112-5, with O. Wood retiring on 33no. In reply, the Gentlemen Players of Rubislaw fell agonisingly close, being all out for 109 runs.
