Leaders ATSSC lose 100% record at the hands of the Rebels (Week 8)With the haar rolling in from the sea, it was back to league business this week with the the top of the table clash between league leaders ATSSC and third place Dec Rebels catching the eye. It turned out to be a crucial victory for the Rebels, a win that pulls them right back into contention in the league. The Legends are now the only team left with a 100% record, sitting at the top of the table following a win over the Gentlemen Players of Rubislaw at Allan Park Stadium. The Legends and the Rebels have a near identical margin at the moment, so any slip up by the Legends could see a change at the top of the table again. There were also wins for Inn at the Park, Caledonian, Dutchmill, the Dare Devils and MCC (first win of the season The haar was especially bad at the Links for the match between ATSSC and the Rebels. ATSSC batted first and made a great start with both openers retiring (A. Win 33 no). However, the Rebels fought right back with some good bowling and fielding, restricting ATSSC to 96 AO. Pick of the bowlers for the Rebels were Rahul (2 for 21 off 4 overs) and Swapnil (1 for 9 off 3 overs). In reply, the Rebels reached 99-3 in the 11th over as the haar thickened to record a comfortable 7 wicket victory, with batting contributions from Kapil (29), Swapnil (29) & Vicky (25 no). Local spinster, Miss Deboat, at number 33, had been out shopping at Miss Summers Union St emporium and arrived home late. She gasped in admiration as she saw her Legends were batting, happy that Skipper Balsillie had finally won a toss.....only to realise that Balsillie along with four other Legends were missing from the regular line-up and that stand in skipper Anderson proved that he was a far greater tosser than Balsillie. Deciding to bat, the Legends powered their way to 202 for 4 with Grayson producing a steady opening and along with Keith, Thompson and Gilly, all feasted at the table of pies and all retired on 30+ (Z scored 1). It was a massive ask for the GPoR who stuck manfully to their task but wickets fell regularly thanks to Thomson (3 for 7), Keith (3 for 10) and Anderson (2 for 27). The GPoR were finally bowled out for 92 (Z gave away 16 in one over). A sensible innings from Budd (29) and some big hitting from Williams (17) and X Tras (17) and Z, helped the GPoR to 92 all out, with a stunning boundary catch from Milroy closing the resistance. A comfortable 110 run victory for the Legends, that takes them to the top of the table and vastly improves their margin. But it was the blistering batting that caught Miss Deboats eye. The Hoff looked stormtroopingly resplendent in his new cap and jumper and Miss Deboat smiled. She pulled a small package from her shopping bag, she wasn't going to the Bieldside Inn this evening....she had other things on her mind. Hoff wasn't there either............... Inn at the Park beat the Knightriders by 54 runs and move into 4th place in the table. Inn at the Park won the toss and chose to bat against the Knightriders on a very slow and damp DP2. The Park posted a total of 136-6 off 20 overs against a tidy bowling attack. J. Mac (32 no), Amit (30 no) and Masud (19) were the main contributors with the bat for the Park. Pick of the bowlers for the Knightriders were Raja (3 for 18 off 4) and Sella (0 for 24 off 4). In reply, wickets fell at regular intervals and the Knightriders were eventually bowled out for 82 AO. Pick of the bowlers for the Park were A. Canavan (3 for 15 off 4), Guru (3 for 22 off 4) and Masud (1 for 20 off 4). Caledonian recorded a 6 wicket victory over St Ronald in a high scoring encounter at the Shed. Batting first, St Ronald posted a very credible total of 145 AO with only one ball remaining, with Praveen retiring on 33 no. Pick of the bowlers for Caley were Grant Cordiner (3 for 18) and Wayne Thomson (3 for 29). In reply, Caledonian reached 151 for 4, with both Alasdair Smith (32no) and Sunny (31no) retiring. Dutchmill beat Aberdeen University by 5 runs in a close encounter at Kings College. Batting first, Dutchmill were restricted to 95-7, with Oli Wood top scoring for the Mill (32 no). Pick of the bowlers for the Uni side was Andy Wallace (3 for 16). In reply, A.U.C.C. fell agonisingly short, making 90 AO, with McHoul (27) top scoring with the bat. Rory Taylor (2 for 14) and Gavin Jamieson (2 for 15) were the pick of the bowlers for the Mill. The Dare Devils are back to winning ways, recording a 4 wicket victory over Chevron on DP1. Batting first, Chevron posted a target of 107 AO, with T Donald (21) and Crawley (21) top scoring with the bat. Top bowlers for Dare Devils were Rahul (4 for 22 off 4) and Chetan (2 for 16 off 3.1). In reply, the Dare Devils reached 108 for 6 in the 18th over, with Tarun (32no) and Dinesh (16no) top scoring. Top bowlers for Chevron were A Moore (2 for 15 off 3 Overs) and Dharen (1 for 8 off 4 Overs). MCC recorded their first victory in the AECL this season, overcoming Grammar 98 on DP3 in a very close match played in the best of AECL spirit. Grammar 98 batted first and were restricted to 83 AO, with Shiraz, Andy Vinten and Viji bowling well. In reply, MCC reached 84-8 to record a 2 wicket victory, with Findlay the pick of the bowlers for G98. login to post comments 433 reads
