Week 2.... Nexen record their first win and Shell solid at the top with 2 wins out of 2

Week 2 saw Shell take on Siyapa Xi at the Links, while Nexen recorded their first win of the campaign against Bons over at Groats Road.

Shell winning the toss and posting a mammoth score of 202 for 4 off 20 overs. Hamza retiring on 34, with the rest of the top order all scoring well into the 20's. Siyapa's reply started well with Umair & Khuram sharing an opening stand of 30, but, once Umair fell, it became a procession, with the exception of Salman who hit some lusty blows before being bowled by Hamza. Debutant Nick Cooke took 3 wickets to end Siyapa's fightback. The temperature had dropped significantly by the end, but the game was played in great spirit.

Over at Groats Road Nexen entertained Bon Accord:

The game was set for a full 20 overs as both sides seemed ambitious about sunlight. Bon Accord won the toss and selected to bat first. Their openers did well to see off the new ball bowlers. The first wicket fell as Sanjeev was caught behind to the keeper of the bowling of Sharath. Youngster Krutik was then joined by Jai and pair started scoring freely with Krutik showing a very good technique and temperament which should provide him good success in the SPCU grades. After Jai was caught at long on by Rahul off Vijay, K. Imran came in at 4. This was to prove the most destructive partnership of the game but the retirement rule came to Nexen's help when Krutik scored a boundary off Amol to retire on 33. After a few lusty blows K.Imran fell for an inswinger from Amol and was bowled for 17. This brought Bon Accord captain for the day Adnan to the crease. Nexen following its tradition opened up the bowling to all players with first timers and lapsed players alike. This change of bowling and some surprisingly accurate bowling and fielding meant that Duncan got 1/12 of his 2 overs where Robin held on the a fine catch at square leg, whose last foray onto the field was some 15+ years ago. Rahul got Kamal Rana to slice one to point where the spinning ball was barely held together by Amol. In a surprising turn of events, Robin, in his solitary over got the ball to straighten up after a few wides and clean bowled the steady Adnan for 19 runs. Sid and Himanshu bowled tight lines giving very few runs. Sharath and Vijay then finished off the innings with 1 wicket each in 19.4 overs. Only 2 boundaries were scored after wicket number 4 fell with extras being a big contributor to their score of 120 runs.

Bon Accord
Krutik - 33 no
Adnan - 19
K. Imran - 17
Vijay - 2/17 in 3.4 overs
Sharath - 2/26 in 4 overs

Nexen opened with Duncan and Uday to chase 121 with the light rapidly fading. Krutik opened for Bon Accord and struck gold first ball when he had the much reliable Duncan clean bowled. Again, the youngster showed that he was threat with the bat and the bowl. Bruce walked in at number 3 as the designated number 3, Robin, was busy having a fag not expecting Duncan to come back so soon! The players took advantage of the second opening bowler Prashant. Uday took matters in his own hand and scored 3 boundaries in 3 ball in the over from Prashant. This was followed up by an excellent maiden from Krutik. Bruce and Uday steadied the ship for Nexen and kept the scoreboard ticking; Uday scoring freely and Bruce defending solidly. It was Bruce to depart first when he was clean bowled by Vicky trying to slog one that was in the blockhole. This brought the much awaited Robin to the crease. Uday finished off his 30 with the single to mid wicket showing a composed innings. Praful and Robin then carried on moving the score along with not much pressure. Both fell trying to hit boundaries to balls they should have defended. Sharath, Himanshu and Rahul went in and contributed 11, 7 and 8 respectively with the light fading drastically and the ball barely visible. Sharath managed to hit 2 fours but was caught by Adnan. Rahul managed to cut Krutik for a 4 through point on his return for the final spell. The pair of Sid and Vijay went in with 12 required from 3 overs and Nexen 8 wickets down. They saw off some good fast paced bouncers in very poor light conditions. The equation became 5 of 6 balls. Both found the gaps and Nexen ran victorious off 19.4 overs with 2 wickets in hand. The game finished at 9:30pm.

Uday - 30 no
Bruce - 16
Sharath - 11
Bon Accord
Vicky - 3/20 in 4 overs
Krutik - 2/15 in 4 overs 1 maiden
