Crescent slay Dons to setup a Semi-Final clash with Bons.

Crescent met The Dons on a chilly night at Groats Road for their re-scheduled Oxy Cup Quarter Final match up.

Dons Captain Rajneesh won the toss and elected to bat first. Dons opened with Ashfaq & Maayank, with only the second ball of the game, Maayank skied one to short mid on, where Crescent Captain Umair Quraishi spilled the catch, but, ended up running Maayank out anyway, Umair gave out a big sigh of relief!

In came Taj Singh, who was timing the ball well .... only to hit an absolute screamer straight to the waiting Nathan at mid-off. Leaving the Dons 2 down for 11 off 3 overs. In rocked Abid Ali, and in his usual style, didn't hang around long mis-timing a pull to loop the ball back to bowler Vaneet Khanna for a simple caught & bowled. Dons 3 down already in the 4th over.

Thankfully, Ashfaq & Prashant Goppinathan rebuilt the Dons innings with some stylish hitting and clever running between the wickets to put on a stand of 60 to get Dons up past 78, before Ashfaq finished off with a sublime four to retire on 30. Prashant looking to retire in style was bowled by Nathan for 28. That brought in skipper Rajneesh, who hit two absolute brutal sixes over the head of mid on, sending one down the road to Hazlehead Park! Taking the Dons total to 108 for 8 from their 20 overs. A little below par, but, defendable with some tight bowling.

Crescent opened with Umair Quraishi & Madhan Mohan, Umair looked to be cruising after dispatching two lovely pull shots from Taj Singh to the mid wicket boundary for consecutive boundaries, only for Taj to then bowl an absolute Jaffa that pitched on off stump, beat the bat and clipped the off stump bail to remove Umair. This brought Shoaib in, but, he didn't last long, Taj bowling him with a low in cutter.

Crescent were making the chase difficult for themselves, however, Kannan and Veera went about picking up singles and hitting the odd boundary, taking the score up to 68, Kannan was bowled by Ashfaq for 29 going for a big shot to finish. a couple of quick wickets including catches by Abid Ali & Himanshu meant the Dons were back in the game. Kuljeet & Jake at the crease had the simple equation of chasing 17 from 18 balls, Kuljeet played with caution, collecting singles and doubles, helped by some woeful misfielding to drag Crescent past the total of 109 with 4 balls to spare.

A very entertaining game played in good spirit, it was tight at the end, and could have been won by either team. But, Crescent held their nerve in the end to come out on top. Bons awaiting Crescent at the Links of Wednesday to settle the Semi Final. With Shell CC already, awaiting the winners of the SF, in the Final on Wednesday 10th July @ Mannofield.
