Cup holders ATSSC lose to Chevron (Oxy Cup Preliminary Round)

There was not a jumper in sight as the Oxy Cup started with 4 preliminary matches in perfect conditions for cricket.

After three years, ATSSC's stranglehold on the cup has finally been broken, losing to Chevron by 6 wickets at the Links. Ellon beat Inn at the Park in a close encounter at DP 3. In the 'Queens Cross' derby, Grammar 98 overcame Dutchmill at DP1, winning by 35 runs . The Rebels recorded a comfortable 50 run win over MCC at DP2.

Inn at the Park beat St Ronald in rearranged fixture

Inn at the Park have finished the season on 18 points after a comfortable 111 run victory over St Ronald at Duthie Park 1, a victory that means the DeC Rebels must now beat Dutchmill by 59 runs or 6 wickets in their rearranged match if they are to retain the title.

On a perfect night for cricket, the Park batted first and reached 191 for 7 after 20 overs. Main contributions with the bat were Sajid (32 no), Ali (32 no), Phil G (19), Mudassar (17) and Bill Caffyn (15 no). Pick of the bowlers were Nitin (2 for 23 off 3 overs), Sunil (1 for 15 off 2 overs) and Aftab (1 for 15 off 2 overs). In reply St Ronald batted well but were not able to keep up with the run rate against a strong Park bowling line-up, reaching 80 for 7 at the close, with Sunil (14) and Afai (19) top scoring for St Ronald. Unfortunately a top edge to the chin brought Rob's tidy innings to a premature end on 9 no (sport hurts !!). Pick of the bowlers for the Park were Arshad (2 for 9 off 4 overs) and Ali (2 for 16 off 4 overs).

Dec Rebels receive walkover against ATSSC - Wednesday matches (Week 11)

News that ATSSC have scratched against the DeC Rebels at the Links, a result that automatically hands the Rebels 2 points and a margin of 100 (canceling out the Park's exploits of last night) and puts them back in pole position for the title. The Rebels have a margin lead of 53 over the Park, with just one rearranged match against Dutchmill to take place.

Grammar 98 recorded a narrow 1 wicket victory over MCC in a high scoring match at the Shed, with the winning runs coming in the last over. MCC made 148 for 5 off 20 overs. In reply, Grammar 98 made 149 for 9.

Inn at the Park put pressure on the Rebels - Tuesday matches (Week 11)

DeC Rebels play ATSSC at the Links tonight knowing that winning by a margin greater than 47 will take the current league champions back to the top of the table with just one rescheduled match against Dutchmill to be played. Inn at the Park recorded a comprehensive 100 run victory over Methlick last night to significantly improve their overall margin. Ellon continued their good form with a 48 run victory over Dutchmill. However Ellon are now relying on the Rebels and the Park dropping points due to their inferior margin.

DeC Rebels increase margin at the top (Week 10)

A comprehensive victory for the DeC Rebels over Caledonian has increased their margin over Inn at the Park at the top of the table. The Park recorded a comfortable victory over MCC. Ellon also remain in contention for the title following a win over Grammar Hockey. There were also wins for Methlick, ATSSC and Chevron.

Dec Rebels entertained Caledonian at DP1. Caledonian won the toss and elected to bat. The Rebel's bowlers were on top with Rahul taking a six wicket haul (6 for 14 off 4 overs) and Bushie taking 2 for 10 off 4 overs. Caledonian were all out for 59 runs. In reply, the Rebels reached 64 for 2, with Vicky retiring on 30 and Rohit finishing off the innings with a six to record an 8 wicket victory - a victory that keeps the current champions ahead of Inn at the Park in the title race by a margin of 53.

The current champions DeC Rebels have beaten MCC by 122 runs to move to 12 points and significantly improve their 'margin' over their nearest rivals. Ellon and Inn at the Park also had comprehensive victories over Methlick and Caledonian respectively. Chevron lost ground on the leaders, losing to ATSSC. There were also wins for Grammar 98 and St Ronald.

The Rebels won the toss and reached a total of 160 for 5 at the close, with Vicky (35 no) & Narendra (32 no) retiring for the Rebels.
Postponed Fixtures

Any match that has been postponed (see Rule 4) must be played before Tuesday 5th August (inclusive) otherwise it will be treated as an abandoned match for the purposes of calculating the final league table (1 point each and no impact on the margin). So far, only the fixtures of 3rd June have been affected. Both captains must be in agreement to reschedule the match. Please note that there are no spare weeks built into the fixtures due to the number of league / cup matches, however the opportunity may arise as teams are knocked out of the Oxy Cup (Methlick v Grammar Hockey already have an opportunity to reschedule their match when the preliminary round of the Oxy Cup takes place).

Oxy Cup Draw

The draw for the 2008 Oxy Cup was made by Chris Bell this afternoon in the splendid surroundings of Chevron reception. First out of the paper coffee cup were ATSSC, winners of the Oxy Cup for the last three years, closely followed by Chevron to Chris' 'delight'.

The four teams receiving a bye to the quarter final are the four teams currently at the wrong end of the league table (opportunity for Methlick v Grammar Hockey on Tuesday 22nd July at the Shed in a rearranged league match).

AECL - Spirit of the Game

As you're aware, there is nothing specifically written down on the subject of wides and no balls within the AECL rules. We've generally just got on with it. However there have been a few instances in recent weeks of umpires no balling anything down leg side and also not being aware if shoulder high or head high is being applied for no balls.

In the interest of consistency and to adopt rules most appropriate to our Evening League, the following 'Spirit of the Game' document has been prepared (see attached). This has been reviewed by the President and the Committee.
