League reconstruction agreed at AGM

The AECL has continued to grow and grow, with a further 5 clubs joining for the forthcoming 2010 season (BP C.C, Gordonians C.C, RGU C.C, Royal Challengers C.C and Kings 11 C.C.), bringing the total number of clubs to 20 - an increase of 9 clubs over the last two years.

There will be two leagues of 10. The top 10 finishing teams last year will compete in the top league, with the remaining 5 teams joining the 5 new teams in the lower league (should any of the top 10 finishing teams wish to start in the lower league, their place will be offered to the 11th team etc and then to the new clubs). Teams will be contacted shortly on this matter.

Apologies for any inconvenience.
Over and Out.....

So that's it for another year in the AECL. The last outstanding result between ATSSC and MCC has finally been tracked down, so we now have a final league table!! Hope everyone enjoyed the season. AGM in early March 2010.

Cheers, AECL Management

A time for reflection

Any general feedback or suggestions you have to improve the AECL for the 2010 season, please forward to results@aecl.org.uk

We already have two teams expressing an interest to join the AECL next season, so league reconstruction is likely to be a key discussion point at the AGM next year.

A few rule changes may also be worth considering, such as an earlier start time in May and August and deciding final league placings based on the head-to-head result rather than the margin when two teams find themselves on the same points.

Legends win title as DeC Rebels suffer defeat (Week 15)

The Legends have secured the AECL League title after a crushing victory over Chevron at Allan Park Stadium, however the much talked about margin had no bearing on the final outcome as the DeC Rebels suffered defeat at the hands of a strong Aberdeen University side at Kings College.

There were also wins for ATSSC, Knightriders, Dare Devils, Caledonian and St Ronald. ATSSC have secured third place in the league, with the Knightriders in fourth place in their first season in the AECL. It is Grammar 98 that find themselves at the wrong end of the table this year.

AECL Batsman / Bowler of the Year

Tankards were awarded on the last evening of fixtures to the AECL Bowler and Batsman of the Year.

The Bowler of the Year was awarded to Russell Balsillie of the Legends. Russell took 20 wickets in the season at an average of 5.2 and an economy of 3.5. Other contenders were G. Singh of the DeC Rebels with 20 wickets and an average of 6.5 and an economy 4.3. Rahul Narula of the Dare Devils was the top wicket taker in the AECL, taking 29 wickets at an impressive strike rate of 7.4. However, after much discussion, the committee awarded the tankard to Russell based on the impressive average and economy achieved at the 'small ground' that is Allan Park Stadium. Rahul pushed Russell a very close second.

The League campaign - the final chapter

The AECL league champions will finally be crowned on Tuesday after a long league campaign that started back in April. The weather gods have generally been kind this year with only two weeks being lost to the weather, so hopefully this will continue for one further week.

Following their win in the Oxy Cup final, the Dec Rebels will be hoping to secure a league and cup double with a win over Aberdeen University at Kings College. A solid victory for the Rebels is likely to be sufficient to win the title. However the Legends still have a chance of pipping the Rebels should they secure a comprehensive victory over Chevron at Allan Park stadium and overturn the 78 pts margin deficit. It's a tall ask though. The toss is likely to be crucial for the Legends as batting second will limit their margin......losing a couple of wickets would spell curtains. The Legends skipper's best option is to practise his tossing to give them any chance. Of course there is no guarantee that both teams will win their matches!!

DeC Rebels beat Legends in Oxy Cup Final

It was a glorious summers evening that greeting the Legends and DeC Rebels as they took to the field at Mannofield in the final of the AECL Oxy Cup. Stuart Clark and Ian Goodenough were the umpires on the night.

The Rebels won the toss and elected to bat. The Legends opened the bowling with R. Balsillie and B. Thomson and the Hoff got off to a great start, taking the first two wickets with only 6 runs on the board. However, Vicky (26), Kapil (33no), Amol (31no) and Swapnil (18) put the Rebels back on track, posting a total of 140 for 4 off 20 overs, after being 55 for 2 at the half way mark. Pick of the bowlers for the Legends were the Hoff (2 for 9 off 4 overs), R. Balsillie (0 for 22 off 4 overs) and D. Anderson (0 for 21 off 4 overs).

DeC Rebels maintain top spot (Week 14)

With only one week in the league campaign to go, the DeC Rebels remain ahead of the Legends by way of a better margin (78 pts) after wins over the Gentlemen Players of Rubislaw and Dutchmill respectively. Both teams won by 8 wickets on a damp and drizzly evening.

There was also a win for the Dare Devils against Ellon at the Links and St Ronald against Aberdeen Uni at Kings College. The Knightriders received a walkover against Grammar 98 after some confusion over cancelling the match. The matches between MCC v Chevron and ATSSC v Caledonian were rained off.

League Subscriptions, Payment of pitches

A reminder that league subscriptions are due for the season.....still a whopping £5 per team. St Ronald and MCC have already paid, all other teams (by my records) are still to pay for this season (this can be carried forward to next years AGM if our paths don't cross this season).

Ellon owe £10 (£5 outstanding from last year).

Ellon continue winning run (Week 13)

With only 2 weeks to go in the league campaign, it remains very close at the top of the table following wins for both the Legends and Dec Rebels over Caledonian and the Knightriders respectively. Both teams move onto 20 points, however it looks increasingly likely that the league may be decided by way of the better margin....currently the Rebels have a lead of 81. The Legends are still to face Dutchmill and Chevron, with the Gentlemen Players of Rubislaw and a visit to Kings College on the last day to face Aberdeen University the remaining fixtures for the Rebels.
